Spartak 78 U12 - Winners Spartak Colts Tournament 2011
Tournament Report

The Group Stage

With only three teams competing Spartak, Cambourne and Haverhill everyone played each other twice in the group stage with the top 2 teams progressing to the final. Spartak played Cambourne first and in a tight game with both sides going for the win and the defences holding firm it was a last minute goal by Oliver Mansfield that secured the victory. Haverhill beat Cambourne in the second game. Spartak then played Haverhill and a lacklustre performance from the home team saw Haverhill come out winners.
Spartak then played Cambourne again and the performance still wasn't good and it was only a good penalty save from Alex Perry saw spartak hold on for a draw. Haverhill run out easy winners against Cambourne to see them and Spartak in the final, but before that they had to play each other in the last group game.
Bill made changes to try and get the boys playing but still they didn't perform like they had done many times throughout the year in the league sometimes it was like they had never seen each other before let alone played football. Haverhill won the game but it was more about trying to get the team playing.

The Final

Bill had sat the boys down and gave them a team talk which seemed to work or was it the suggestion of an ice cream if they won?

Straight away you saw a massive improvement passing to each other closing down the opponents, with captain George Crawte and George silvester dominating the centre of midfield and Freddie Jones and Matt Tucker running up and down the wings. Josh Bates, Alex Howlett, Tommy Cox and Harvey Carter at the back kept Haverhill at bay with some great tackles and defensive blocks and when they got through Alex Perry was there to tidy up. George Storey and Oliver Mansfield ran there socks off up front but they couldn't find a goal in the first half.

Second Half was much the same in this close fought match with both sides going close it was a good bit of play in the midfield that then saw George Storey break down the wing and cut in and unleash a powerful shot that made its way into the back of the net. Haverhill tried everything to equalise but great team defending saw Spartak hold on and take the trophy.

Also in the squad was William Purkiss, Josh Green, Harry and Regan Dobney, Oliver Armstrong and Callum Courtney who when called upon came in and helped the team to this well deserved victory. Well done boys it was a well deserved trophy after a much improved year of football. GOOD LUCK !!! for the 2011/2012 season.
